Britons concerned with family health and weight loss have been told that the first step is to acknowledge there is a problem.
Dr Christian Jessen, a TV personality known for his work on Embarrassing Illnesses and Supersize vs Superskinny, told Brits that in order to combat the problem effectively, the only way to start is to confront it head on.
He recommended taking simple steps to help shift the pounds, such as gradually looking at areas of one's life where little changes may make a difference.
"I always say the best kind of diet to be on is the diet that you don't know you are on because your body won't rebel against it and you won't supposedly 'cheat'", Dr Jessen added.
The expert went on to say that looking at areas where one's diet could be improved will also make a difference, such as swapping frying for grilling and substituting fizzy drinks for water.
Recent research presented at the national meeting of the American Chemical Society has revealed that drinking two cups of water before eating meals can help reduce appetite.
More about family health.
