Families have been offered parental advice on how to keep costs down when it comes to kitting out their children for the new school term, with one money-saving website suggesting supermarkets and pound shops as the first port of call.
Jasmine Birtles, founder of Moneymagpie.com, has explained that many parents are particularly feeling the financial pinch this year as "there isn't very much money to go about."
But, she reassured worried parents, stating that while there are a lot of other costs to take into account, it is possible to do it on a budget.
"I would say pound shops are very good places for stationary particularly. Again supermarkets they do back to school specials," she said, adding that libraries and charity shops are a great resource for books.
New research from LV= has found that, on average, parents will spend £122 on back to school costs, rising to £139 for parents with children in secondary school.
