The inflated price of travel during school holidays will continue to push parents to take their children out of school during term-time, according to parental advice site Mumsnet.
Recent statistics published by the Department for Education have found that in the spring term of 2010 around 1.4 million school days were missed across the UK due to family vacations.
Catherine Hanly, associate editor at Mumsnet, said that these figures were "really not surprising", given the price hike that happens during school holidays, which will force many cash-strapped families to take a vacation during term-time.
"At a time when household budgets are tighter than ever, this is probably going to be an issue which comes up time and again," she said, adding that the younger the child, the more likely the parent is to take them out of school for a holiday.
Ms Hanly went on to say that many parents were angry at the inflated prices faced by families who wanted to take their children away outside of school term-time.
