Parents concerned with their family health have been told that out-of-school activities can help children develop confidence in learning, by an industry expert.
Helen Barnard, policy and research manager at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, explained that giving a child the chance to take part in out-of-school pursuits also gives them the chance to develop 'learning relationships'.
"As regards after-school activities, our research suggests that these can play an important part in children's education and may be particularly important for children from low income and disadvantaged backgrounds," she said.
Ms Barnard went on to tell parents that not only do out-of-school activities aid family health, but could also improve their school attainment and future experiences, which can in turn, improve their quality of life.
Her comments follow recent Save the Children research, which found that almost two-thirds of UK parents have to say no to their children attending after-school clubs because they are too expensive.
More about family health.
