Girls and boys have different learning styles and should be taught separately, according to an industry commentator offering parental advice.
Research by the British Educational Research Association has revealed that girls believe they are cleverer, better-behaved and try harder than boys at school from the age of four or five.
In response to this, Alison Morris, editor of MyDaughter.co.uk, explained that many parents are unlikely to be surprised by the survey's findings that both girls and boys in primary education think that girls are more focussed, able and successful in school.
She went on to say that boys prefer more active teaching methods, benefiting from hands-on, practical lessons, but they are also the most adventurous learners and less fearful of making mistakes.
Ms Morris added: "All this is yet another argument for teaching girls and boys separately. Different methods of teaching, more finely tuned expectations and gender-targeted work, all help both boys and girls flourish in the classroom."
