Families seeking parental advice have been told that one of the main aspects that result in higher grades of children is the quality of the teacher.
John Coe, general secretary for the National Association for Primary Education, has explained that UK teaching is doing "pretty well" in terms of equipping children with the skills they need in later life.
However he did add that there is a wide range of attainment between the most able and the least able, and this could be down to the standard of teaching across the country.
"Many studies in recent years, particularly [those] independent of government, have come to the view that the critical factor in enabling the achievement of higher standards in any kind of school, is the quality of the teacher alongside the child," he explained.
Mr Coe added that producing a national curriculum and an inspection system has only been partially successful in raising standards.
Alison Morris, editor of MyDaughter.co.uk, recently said that she believes girls and boys should be taught separately as this would help them "flourish in the classroom".
