Help us celebrate the achievements of families in Britain today
Over the years Candis has never been afraid to highlight issues that affect families. We’ve campaigned to improve anti-bullying policies in school, helped push family carers on to the Government’s agenda and get recognition for the special role grandparents play in the lives of our children today. Since becoming editor of Candis last year, I’ve been touched by the number of readers with amazing stories to tell. Families who’ve come through adversity or have had to deal with illness, tragedy or circumstances that mean nothing can ever be the same again. Families who’ve worked as a team to make a difference at home, their community or further afield or simply share their good fortune with those in need.
This year we’ve decided to recognise these unsung heroes of our society. Too much is written about the breakdown of family life in Britain, and how there’s no hope for a generation brought up in such materialistic times. But as we at Candis know, that’s not the full story and it’s time to redress the balance. Which is why we’re launching our search for Britain’s Outstanding Family of the Year. Read on to find out how you can nominate a family you think deserves to be entered or for how to let us know about your own family’s achievements.

THE WINNERS…
The Outstanding Family of the Year were announced on 10 July 2008 at a gala presentation lunch at Chester Zoo for the six regional finalists. Each finalist received £250 and a Candis goody bag while the winning family enjoyed a fantastic all-inclusive holiday at the Holiday Village Aliathon, in Paphos, Cyprus courtesy of First Choice.

Simple guidelines
The Candis Outstanding Family of the Year Award is to celebrate a whole family’s achievements. It may be, for example, that someone in your family has been directly affected by cancer/illness/accident and now all of you raise money for charity. This is your chance to highlight the effort and support of each family member, showing how everyone has a part to play. It may be that the family you know works as a team to raise money for a good cause or has a role helping local children in the community to have a better life. There is no age limit, but we do ask that more than one generation be involved.
