For every hero standing tall, who's faced a mammoth feat
There will be a mum who's cleaned the stairs, who won't
admit defeat
For every time you read a tale of victory and gain
There is a person trying hard to work despite the pain
The stories are of fighting through, of courage and success
But who's to say that day-to-day you've managed any less
I've pushed a pushchair with one hand, with baby in the other
That's my battle every day, to make it as a mother
I've not got time for challenges, to abseil down a wall
I've got to help my little one learn to kick a ball
I don't need mountains, sponsored runs, to be an inspiration
I'm still here with my family, that's cause for
celebration
I admire those who've done something that shows how far
they've come
But that doesn't mean that mundane things aren't victory to
some
We all face hurdles every day, just trying to get by
And those small things are just as good as jumping from the sky

"I would like to say that this poem was written to show how I felt about surviving a stroke at only 28, and the pressures to 'suceed' and show how you've recovered, when all I want to do is be a good mum to my little girl."
