On Wonderland

You say you like my poems, Sue, - of love and waterfalls!
Of Fairy Queens, and spider's webs, to change a life that palls.
Well, it just shows we need not doubt, though I am stuck up here,
My mind will travel to you, dear; my words can still ring clear!
They fly from here on wings of love, to bring you peace of heart,
To take you into fairyland, to prove (though we're apart)
We're joined by more than just our flesh, - we're one in spirit too
We've learned there's so much more to life - there's wonders old and new
Just waiting for our childlike minds to seek and to explore
Like where the 'pot of gold' does lie - what makes the rainbow soar?

So here I sit, with pen in hand, my magic to unfold,
To take you on a mystic trip (if I may be so bold?)
To take you where you've only dreamed (but where do dreams begin?)
Perhaps we live within a dream - the line between is thin!
So drift with me on clouds of light - just leave our flat behind,
Forget about the noise around - the baseness of mankind!
Or they could never understand, not in a thousand years
What could they know of simple things, like laughter and shared tears?
Of fairies and some things divine their minds could never seek!
They revel in their ignorance, of scaring old and weak!

So, let us think of what to do, as we make up our tale,
"For life is what you make it!" said Jonah in the whale.
So, come with me - my only love - come take me by the hand
I'll lead you from this world of pain and into fairyland!
Its where, no matter what you want - whether great of small
You only need to make a wish - ask anything at all!
And there we'll be, in that sweet place, our Shangri-La of dreams
Where no-one can disturb us, where nothing's what it seems.
Where all the rules of age and death can somehow be reversed
When I could change -and shed this frame - which age accursed!

My face will glow with health again - no wrinkles crease my skin.
My hair will shine - and thick will be (for as you know - it's thin!)
In every way I will become that young man of your dreams
For where all things are possible, I'll overturn time's schemes
And you'll become so beautiful - with form so curved and sweet
(It's just as well you're in my dreams - not walking down my street!)
With loveliness to flame my soul - you'll be my heart's desire
We'll love with such intensity - we'll burn with inner fire!
And then you'll know how much I care, for how else can I tell?
I'd take you in my loving arms - and lay you in a dell.

And there with no-one but the birds who'll sing as we make love,
We'll crush some flowers lovingly, brought to us by a dove.
Their scent will rise between us, Sue, as they lie on your breast
Bruised by passion's rise and fall as to my heart you're pressed!
I'll kiss your lips, your bosoms fair, and everywhere I can.
I'll love you more than life itself, and more than any man!
For I'm your Pete - and in my heart, I'm still that young man there!
Though old by what the world may think, for you my soul's laid bare
But - that young man (though just a dream) - is me within this tale
So, love me while I'm here, my love - I'll daily grow more frail!

So there we'll run, and dance and play, - and do what lovers do
Beneath the trees, beside the lake - above us skies of blue!
Beside us danced a doe-eyed fawn - (no shyness to be seen)
Who gaily leaped to match our glee, through glades of dewy green.
Then, as we danced, - our mood soon spread, for awe glanced behind
We saw a host of animals, of each and every kind!
And not just those (you may suppose) the kind you see in zoos
Like lions, tigers, and giraffes, as well as kangaroos!
But those we know from myths of old, which wove a magic spell
And moves the pens of Grecians bards - as fables they did tell!

We saw the wondrous Pegasus, his proud head held so high,
His mighty wings close to him held - until he wished to fly!
He galloped close, in muscled white, his tail streamed out behind
His nostrils wide and brown eyes soft, as though to read our mind!
So, just like Noah in his Ark - with Japheth, Ham and Shem
We gaily laughed and waved them on, and shared our joy with them.
What fun it is! - What simple joy! - When love is all around!
That's what it's like in fairyland (no humans are around!)
No clothes we on our bodies wore, what need had we of such?
We knew the bliss of nakedness - the innocence of touch!

For, where there is no shame or pride, - no lust or avarice
We'd share the gift of purity - as in a babies kiss.
So, see us there, my dearest love, and stay within my dream!
Forget this world and all its cares, and those who plot and scheme
Just hide with me in fairyland -where everything is light
And learn that deep within yourself you can make all things bright!

The from the trees and meadows fair the birds too joined they throng
As swift they came, and swooped and san, and made such merry song
Who could be sad in such a place? It was as god had made!
With forests tall and mountains high, and rives filled with shade.
"To see it all would take too long!" I whispered in you ear
And then (as though he'd head my voice) did Pegasus draw near.
We looked into his soft brown eyes, - them, - as though he knew,
He knelt his forelegs slowly down, and said - "It's time we flew!"
We climbed up on his study back, our hands tight in his mane
As in my arms I held you close, and kissed you once again.

Then up he rose, and stood so tall, his wings so great unfurled,
And said "Don't fear, you cannot fall, you're in a different world!"
"In Shangri-La your every wish is clearly heard by all"
"So now you'll see this wonderland - and every waterfall!"
"I'll find the highest that I can (once you have seen the views)"
"And fly behind it - through the spray, and through the rainbow hues!"
"For I have watched you when you bathed, while soaring up on high"
"And know you dreamed it once before - for Sue! I heard you sigh!"
Then off he galloped down the glade - his great wings beating strong,
To take us on our magic flight, around us birds of song!
We glanced behind, as once before, and saw our friends give chase
They tried so hard t stay with us, but our steed's sturdy pace
Soon left then waving as we rose - to soar so high above.
Then, as we turned we waved as well and blew a kiss - of love!

To be continued some day!
