He wore a welcoming smile, did our Dad Jim
Even though his health was grim
Made allsorts from wood, be it drift, scrap or good
From toys and furniture - to a garden feature
Fixed watches and clocks, the ones that had stopped
And when we were younger, he fed our hunger
Mmm! 'Chegg and eese twizzel'
Special meals were made 'down in t' cellar'
Well! That's what he told yer!
Cricket on the beach, crutches whistling in the wind
He bowled us over
Walking over fields, looking for four leafed clover
Played his harmonica as we sat, singing round his chair
Puzzles, games and laughter, they were never rare
Always a story to tell - from the war to the ditties
He told them so well
Crosswords were his favourite, the Radio Times the most
I've won a DVD recorder he would proudly boast
Did he ever suss it? Nah! Did he thump!
He'd be on the phone to me saying "I don't know what
I've done"!
So many memories we have to remember
Far too many to put down on paper
We've all got our favourite ones
The ones we'll pass on, now that he's gone
"I wish I'd been born rich instead of beautiful"
He's been known to spout
You were Beautiful Dad of that there's no doubt
And Rich you were, we wanted for Nowt
Thank You Dad you were the best
Life was a struggle; it's now time to rest
Brave and generous to the end
We all love you dad, god bless, amen.
