What was I thinking of?

The poem pretty much explains the pair of black eyes My father had:

What was I thinking of?
That damned pesky crow.
Eating from my table?
I won't have it. No!
I would have had it too,
Right there within my jaws.
If only I'd remembered,
To open the patio doors.
