Jilly Johnson, 55, now a housewife and grandmother of nine, raises
some controversial questions about the way children are brought up

First of all, let me get something straight; I have the greatest
admiration for the parents of today. They seem to have so much to
remember, to do and, indeed, to avoid, the mind boggles at how they
keep up with it all.
There are numerous organised and 'educationally
stimulating' activities to ferry to and pick up from - and
'quality time' to be maintained, (which should also be
challenging and educational), healthy meals and snacks to be
administered (additive-free of course), not to mention the
mind-boggling array of equipment, gadgets and gismos to be carted
around in the little one's wake. Indeed, it's a wonder
parents can get themselves out of the door
