I have been receiving Candis for over 30 years from the days when someone delivered it every month

Candis Member Benefit/s used: Savvy shopper voucher

Comments: I have been receiving Candis for over 30 years from the days when someone delivered it every month. In those days the prize numbers got you an actual prize rather than money I think you could choose. I remember getting towels and a milk pan over the years. I enjoy doing the competitions - its great to be able to enter online - and reading the varied articles. I was thrilled to win £100 and just recently a Fairy Tales DVD. Thanks for an interesting magazine and keep up the good work.

Regards

Flora Wyllie

"I have just replied to the You the jury question, Should the long term unemployed do voluntary work to keep their benefits. In short if there were less voluntary jobs more people would be in paid work, It seems to me that there are too many places relying on volunteers these days as it is. Granted Charity work is a necessity as the money can be better used than paying wages, but even then somrimes people on benefits loose out because they are capable of work but cant find paid work"

"I also have been receiving since 1970 and only ever won some sea monkeys, at least I think they came from you. They were in a battered and bruised parcel with no clue. A plastic submarine which my granddaughter filled with water and the contents of a packet. After a week we saw the monkeys. She took the 'tank' home to show mum, knocked it over and they all went through the floorboards. Aahh"

Allan Goodes - Wednesday 2nd Jun 2010

"I have been recieving Candis for over 40 years. It was just a sheet then, not a magazine as it is now. I won several of the prizes - a blanket, some towels and a silver half-dollar which I still have. I missed a few months when we moved, but when the canvasser came to the door, he arranged for me to get my same numbers again. Two years ago I won £50 worth of vouchers. I have been lucky. "

Alvine Haistead - Saturday 22nd May 2010

I haven't been as lucky since but it's the charity that counts. The magazine is great - I love to do the competitions and to read Laurie Graham's column. Joan Murphy"

"Hi Flora like you I have been a member for a long time, 30 years for me and before that my mother subscribed, I took over her subscription in 1980 when I sadly lost her to Cancer, although very happy to support a wonderful cause I've noticed that the "long termers" lucky numbers are few and far between, one number usually appears in the 53 range perhaps we need an upgrade in our membership numbers, still good to hear of your and others good luck. "

Penny Richards - Saturday 6th Feb 2010

"I've also been a member for more than 25 years, and I.ve just won £75 for the quick crossword. It was a wonderful surprise so don't stop trying. Janice Betts"

"Hi Dorothy, I forwarded your comment on to our editorial team and I’m sure you will be happy to know that starting with the March issue - the crosswords will be on facing pages! Thanks for your feedback, it is always much appreciated. "

Webteam Candis - Monday 18th Jan 2010

"Love Candis but PLEASE go back to putting the crosswords on facing pages so we can fold the magasine with puzzle and clues on one side as otherwise you need to work on a surface (or be a contortionist) to fill ithem in.Thanks xx"

"I was one of those delivery people..... I used to deliver in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham, back in 1970. It was called Cancer and Polio and consisted of just one folded sheet. An area manager would knock on doors to enlist members and then I would deliver the leaflet. Wish I could win one of the money prizes..."

Caroline Gill - Friday 31st Oct 2008

"I also remember getting my magazine delivered over 25 years ago. When we moved house and forgot to tell the 'Candy Man', he tracked us down to our new address to make sure we didn't miss a copy. We have only ever won a set of saws but I love the magazine and read it cover to cover every month."

Fredrick Brown - Friday 24th Oct 2008

"Just like Flora Wyllie I've been receiving Candis Magazine for longer than I care to remember. Although I've entered many of the competitions, my favourites being the crosswords, I've never been lucky enough to win anything, even in the lucky draw my membership number gets nowhere near. So all I can do is to wish all the winners Good Luck"

Alan Card - Monday 20th Oct 2008

"Hi Flora, I remember first getting a newsletter, which was a single typed sheet of info about Candis and lists of prizewinners (don't think it was called that then). That was in 1964! How things have changed since then. I remember winning a set of 3 blue & white striped milk jugs a couple of years after I joined! Take care, Mary"

Mary Porter - Tuesday 7th Oct 2008

"i remember getting it delivered every month but i never won anything well done for winning the milk pan and the other stuff nice memories Flora from Moira xx"
