3 ways to prevent gallstones

1. Cut down on fatty foods – cholesterol is thought to play a role in the formation of gallstones.
2. Eat nuts – a 20 year study of 80,000 women found that those eating more than five portions of nuts a week had significantly less chance of needing their gallbladder removed than those who ate no nuts or less than one portion a month.
3. Have a small amount of alcohol – it can reduce your risk of gallstones, but don’t exceed the NHS guidelines of three to four units a day for men and two to three units a day for women.
