5 minutes with… Ben Fogle
Presenter and adventurer Ben Fogle first came to our attention in the BBC reality show Castaway 2000 which followed a group of 36 people marooned on a remote Scottish island for a whole year. Now a regular face on our screens, he’s better known for his presenting roles on Countrywise and Animal Clinic. Ben lives with wife Marina and children Ludo and Iona.
Who was the first person you spoke to this morning?
My little boy Ludo, he came down and crept into bed at 7am.
What would your perfect day be?
A day on the beach with my wife, children and dog, Maggi.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
I wanted to follow my father into veterinary medicine. I always loved animals.
What super power would you like?
To fly. I would love to take flight. The freedom and the views.
What are you most proud of?
My family. I am brimming with pride of my children, Ludo and Iona.
What are you currently reading, watching and listening to?
I am reading Redmond O’Hanlan’s Trawler, watching The Voice and listening to Fat Freddy’s Drop
What inspires you?
Watching other people achieve their dreams. I am constantly inspired by other people.
What makes you smile/laugh?
Dogs. I love them and they are guaranteed to make me laugh and smile.
What is your most treasured possession?
A painting of my late dog Inca by the artists Olly and Suzi.
Who would you like to be stranded on a desert island with?
Apart from my family, I think Joanna Lumley would be fun!
What would you like to be better at?
Facial recognition. I am terrible at remembering faces.
