Best-selling author Susan Lewis has penned 27 novels as well as two autobiographical memoirs. She has lived in France and California but moved back to Gloucestershire in 2010, where she now lives with her husband James.
Who was the first person you spoke to this morning? My Pilates instructor!
What would your perfect day be? Relaxing on the French Riviera with my husband and a bottle of rose wine.
What would surprise people about you? I’m shy.
What makes you smile? My dogs Coco and Lulabelle. My stepsons Michael and Luke. The sunshine. Finishing a book.
What are you currently reading, watching and listening to? Reading: Wolf Hall; Watching: Happy Valley; listening to: too much chatter going on in my head!
What skill would you most like to have? To be able to sing or dance.
Can you sum yourself up in three words? Disciplined, fun-loving, kind.
What did you want to be when you were younger? A TV producer.
Who would you invite to your dream dinner party? Clever people who make me laugh – Ian Hislop, Paul Merton, Jo Brand, Bill Maher, Sarah Millican, Jennifer Saunders.
What are you most proud of? My book Never Say Goodbye and still being a writer after all these years.
What inspires you? Human issues. Reading really good writers.
What is your most treasured possession? A glass milk jug my mum used to use to make my brother’s baby formula. It’s over 50 years old now and still in one piece!!! Also my engagement ring and obviously my dogs.
Who would you like to be stranded on a desert island with? My husband – he’s the only one who could put up with me for any length of time.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Put the book into the past tense, it’ll come alive (it was all in the present tense, a hangover from working with TV scripts).
Susan Lewis’ latest novel Behind Closed Doors published by Century, is on sale from 14 August for £9.99
