A tree-mendous day out!

It’s been widely documented that spending time in nature is good for both our health and wellbeing, particularly for children who benefit greatly from being out in the natural world.

So if you’re looking for a family day out – something a little bit different – that combines fresh air, with exercise and lots of fun, then Treetop trek/Treetop nets might be just what you’re looking for.

There are three sites to choose from; Windermere in the Lake District, Ripon in Yorkshire and Heaton Park in Manchester. The later is set in the majestic woodland of Heaton Park, and offers a veritable adventure playground in the trees with Treetop Nets, Zip Trek or the Mini Trek to choose from.

The nets is a network of giant trampolines suspended amongst the trees, with sides to shoot down and treehouses to explore. There are two ball park sections too, with large rubber balls to add to the bouncing fun.

Enclosed within high nets, it feels safe and secure, and is suitable for children from three.

At 15m above the ground, the zip trek high ropes adventure is not for the faint hearted, but certainly for the fun seekers. Featuring 23 aerial challenges such as balance bars, swinging logs and Indiana bridges, and 15 zip lines, it takes around 2 hours to complete, and while you may begin feeling a little wary, your confidence will grow with each challenge completed. Rest assured that safety is paramount, with a detailed briefing beforehand, robust harnesses and ropes and staff on hand around the course to assist.

This treetop adventure is suitable from ages seven years and upwards (with adult supervision) while the lower – at 5m – and shorter Mini Trek is suitable for children from age five and lasts one to two hours, with 13 activities including a super skateboard challenge and seven zip lines. Perfect for the younger or less confident trekkers or those with a bit less time on their hands!

Treetop Nets: £20 each for two hours, or £13 for supervisors and under fives.

Zip Trek: £33 for adults and teens aged 16 and over, or £25 for children.

Mini Trek: £18 each.
