Beyond bowel cancer
Candis health editor, Karen Evennett shares the latest health update…
The good news is that your cancer has been treated. The bad news is that you may be worried about how best to look after yourself from now on. To answer some of the most common questions people have during recovery, the charity Bowel Cancer UK has produced a new information pack – Your Diet: Living with and beyond bowel cancer – which can be downloaded here bowelcanceruk.org.uk/yourdiet.
The pack covers a range of subjects such as what to eat when your appetite is low, how to gain or lose weight safely, and eating and drinking with an ileostomy or colostomy.
Actor Ben Richards, a patron of the charity who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2012 but has since recovered, says, “Food can be your friend and your enemy. You know you need the nutrients to get you on your road to recovery, yet you’re afraid of how your insides will deal with each food group. Trial and error can be tough – that is why I am so pleased to see Bowel Cancer UK help address these issues with their downloadable diet resource pack.”
