Can low cholesterol be a problem?
Candis health editor, Karen Evennett shares the latest health update…
Not everyone worries about high cholesterol. In fact members of THINCS (The International Network of Cholesterol Sceptics) – a growing group of doctors and scientists – believe high cholesterol has no part to play in heart disease. Cholesterol is much maligned but actually needed to protect and nourish every cell in the body – and in some countries low cholesterol is considered a health risk. Most recently a study has found that kidney cancer patients with low cholesterol are at greater risk of dying from their disease – possibly because certain components of cholesterol impact the activity of cancer-related pathways to affect tumor growth and spread, say the study’s researchers at the Medical University of Vienna, Austria.
