Congratulations Alzheimer’s Society!

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the first ever Candis Charity Challenge which the Alzheimer’s Society won in August 2013.

The Alzheimer’s Society went head to head with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and received the most votes.

The charity used the money to fund sessions for more than 750 people at their Dementia Cafes, which allows people to interact with others in a safe environment. The cafes also provide much-welcomed support for carers, who are often relatives.

“Thanks so much to everyone who voted for us,” says Liz Monks, Director of Fundraising at Alzheimer’s Society. “We are thrilled to receive a £10,000 donation from Candis, that will enable hundreds of people across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to attend one of our Dementia Cafés.

“There are 800,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this number is set to rise to a million by 2021. Thanks to your support, we will be able to continue to support people with dementia and their carers to live the best possible quality of life.”

Candis Club has also decided to make a special £1,000 donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, to thank all the people who took the time to vote for them.

so very pleased with this result such a dreadful illness. My husband has suffered for over five years and is now in the last stages of this illness it tears you apart to see this long slow illness destroying someone you love. The alzheimers society have it right when they call it ‘the long goodbye’. Thankyou candis may we all hope for a breakthrough soon that others will be spared this pain
