Editor’s summer must-haves
With mornings a little less fraught now the kids are off school and balmy summer evenings to enjoy, it’s time to make the most of this short yet sweet interlude. Here are my fabulous finds to make every moment count…
How gorgeous are these? Not only do they look fabulous, but they are an ingenious invention. You buy your base and then add different ‘uppers’ to compliment any outfit. I love them, not just for their looks but also for the fact they save so much space when packing for a weekend away or when cramming things into an airline holdall to avoid paying luggage fees on no-frills airlines. Not cheap at around £65 for your starter pair, but the quality is excellent and the interchangeable uppers mean they’ll last for more than one summer too. From £65, for a starter set in black, white or truffle.
Body Shop’s Honey Bronze
Aside from suncream, this is my summer beauty basic. I’m rubbish at applying fake tan but hate pasty white legs and this little beauty in a bottle is my savior. Shake the bottle, warm between your hands and rub lightly on arms, legs and shoulders for a lightly iridescent summer glow. Subtle bronzing with no telltale tidemarks, and it washes off easily. Oh, and it smell’s divine too! Honey Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil, 100ml, £16.
Carluccio’s picnic hamper
If you’ve got a special outdoor event to go to then this is the luxury hamper you cannot do without. Yes, I know you could bring your own, but for the sheer treat of being spoilt, this picnic hamper is the bee’s knees. I tried the Vegetarian picnic hamper and for £45 there’s enough to feed at least three – though they say it’s for two – including antipasti, heavenly focaccia, stuffed roasted peppers and a selection of mouthwatering salads as well as savoury goat’s cheese tarts and the most gorgeous strawberry and balsamic tarts.
This paperback is as refreshingly bright and sunshiney as an ice-cold glass of Pimms. The strong characters and cleverly crafted plot is laugh out loud funny and perfect escapism for whenever you find yourself with a moment’s peace to read. Published by Sphere, the RRP is £7.99 but you can also get it on your Kindle for £2.99 at amazon.co.uk now.
Speaking of Pimms…
You can’t go wrong with a glass of this fruity punch. It fits all summer occasions and gatherings, and with the addition of a bit of fruit you can feel almost virtuous. But what to serve it in? Pop down your nearest Asda and nab one of these jug and hiball sets for the amazing bargain price of £5. No that’s not a misprint!
