In the Spotlight – Sarah Morgan
This month we caught up with Sarah Morgan, the American award-winning writer of contemporary romantic fiction. Sarah lives near London with her husband and children and when she’s not writing enjoys being outdoors as much as possible and holidaying with her family.
Can you remember the first book that captured your imagination?
Jane Eyre. I fell deeply in love with Mr Rochester but I was also intrigued by Jane, who was such a strong, independent character.
What’s the most random job you’ve had?
Between finishing school and starting training as a nurse I worked behind a bar.
What would surprise people about you?
I’m really scared of the dark – the downside of a writer’s imagination.
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
Stop worrying about tomorrow. Whatever it brings, you’ll deal with it.
What are you watching, reading and listening to?
I’m watching Homeland (gripping) and New Girl (hilarious), reading Nicola Cornick’s House of Shadows (brilliant) and listening to Adele.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of your work?
I’m doing my dream job so there are many, but talking to readers would be high on the list. I’m very active on facebook and I’m lucky enough to be able to chat to readers from around the globe (facebook.com/authorsarahmorgan).
What makes you laugh?
Many things, but I always find my kids hilarious. I have two sons and I’m endlessly entertained by their astute observations on life.
What’s the most romantic thing that’s ever happened to you?
My husband proposed to me by a lake in a snowy forest on Christmas Eve. It doesn’t get any more perfect than that!
Sarah’s new novel, Sleepless in Manhattan, is out on 10 March (£7.99, MIRA).
