Spring is almost here, and, with days finally getting longer again, now’s the time to start thinking about getting outdoors to exercise more. But should you stick to walking, or risk running? And, if you plump for the latter, what will it do to your knees? It’s traditionally been thought that running regularly increases a person’s risk of osteoarthritis of the knees (other risk factors include being overweight and having a family history of the condition), but a new study at Baylor College of Medicine has found that running – whatever a person’s age – actually lowers the risk of osteoarthritis and protects from knee pain.
