Best dedicated spa and Best spa 2013
Anything you’ve ever wanted from a luxury spa break is here – from the outstanding treatments, the amazing thermal spa experience that is the biggest and most innovative in Europe, supremely comfortable beds, genuinely welcoming and happy staff and talented therapists plus delicious food, there is nothing that is not thought of to make your stay the best. Treatments include Chiro Therapy massage, Clarins TriActive Radiance Reviver facial and their signature treatment, Golden Indulgence, a top-to-toe anti-ageing experience. There are five pools, numerous fitness classes, an outdoor tennis court, various gardens and plenty of acres to walk in plus four relaxation areas, three cafes and a restaurant.
Best day spa
Built on the ground floor of a former textile mill using eco-friendly resources, this impressive day spa boasts luxury spa experience with Elemis and Decléor toiletries plus gold standard treatments in state-of-the-art treatment rooms, including a VIP suite for couples. Its signature treatment is the Mud Chamber where three different grades of organic mud exfoliate and nourish your skin. Visitors can also book an overnight stay in one of 32 self-catering apartments.
Best couples spa
A five-star spa hotel in a beautiful, classical Georgian terrace with the spa nestled in the spacious basement, creating a warm and welcoming environment where couples can enjoy treatments side-by-side. There are over 40 spa treatments to choose from, including the Turus Body Wrap – a seaweed and salt scrub followed by a seaweed and plankton mud wrap to detoxify the lymphatic system, reducing cellulite and boosting the skin’s natural collagen production. The hotel has 93 luxury rooms and six suites, two restaurants and a cafe, two pools and a gym.
Best spa for groups
The soft lighting and rustic décor of this small yet perfectly formed spa makes for a luxurious homely feel that’ll put your group instantly at ease. The Heat Experience is included in all-day packages and this includes the Aromatherapy Steam Room, the Salt Vapour Room and the heavenly foot spas. Try the Anne Sémonin Thermal Stones Experience, the Royal Miracle Ice Facial and their signature treatment, the Black Sand Exfoliation Experience Massage. Then sink into the outdoor hot tub with stunning views of nearby Helmsley Castle.
Best hotel spa
Crammed with contemporary furniture and Cornish art, this hotel has an air of laid back ‘surfer cool’ and is just five minutes from the beach. Relax by the woodburner in the tranquility lounge after treatments that include Thai massages and facials using REN natural skincare products. The signature treatment is Voya Mermaids Purse Hammam Ritual – a clay soap body wash is followed by a salt and oil scrub and then a full massage. There’s an adults-only thermal suite, which includes a sauna, steam room and caldarium. But the spectacular views of the Atlantic from the hydro spa and chill-out area set this spa apart.
Best detox spa
Set in a 1930s apartment block, this intimate spa specialises in the age-old cleansing and purifying rituals of authentic Morocco. Spa mentors are available at all times, performing a traditional hand cleansing ritual on arrival, and are on hand to advise you throughout the lemon detox they specialise in, made with Madal Bal natural syrup. Among treatments on offer are bespoke Arabian massages, the deeply nourishing Argan Facial and the Moroccan Majorelle, which offers the ultimate indulgence and the perfect complement to any lemon detox programme. There are 165 serviced apartments if you want to book an overnight package, which includes access to the club lounge, champagne bar, pool, gym plus tennis and squash courts. Outside is a walled courtyard garden and more than three acres to walk in.
Best spa for mum and daughters
This 17th century former stately home has grand country house style and opulent décor, but the welcoming staff are down to earth and you’ll soon relax. Centered around a 360° fire and wigwam-style chimney, the minimalist chic spa offers treatments to suit everyone, including teens – the Teen Spa menu includes facials, skincare and make-up lessons and gentle massage for 12-18 year olds, and mothers and daughters can enjoy their facials side by side in the Parent and Teen package. We loved the Comfort Touch Full Body Tranquility Massage and the Comfort Zone Recover Touch Anti-Oxidant Facial while the Just Be Elemental is a relaxing journey of rough, smooth and warm sensations using 100 per cent natural products. Stay in one of the 46 bedrooms and enjoy two restaurants, two cafes, three pools and 400 acres countryside to wander in, including a wildlife park.]
Best spa abroad
Reid’s Palace is set dramatically on a cliff top and surrounded by its own mature gardens, crowded with palms and exotic shrubs. Between treatments, you can lounge by one of the two infinity pools, admire the dramatic Atlantic views and then unashamedly dress up in your finest to enjoy a sophisticated gourmet dinner. There can be few places where you can show of your post-spa glow in such enchanting Great Gatsby-esque surroundings. Try the Saat, Complete Detox from Ytsara, a massage to leave you feeling completely restored. Indulge in the Na, Tropical Fruit and Flower Facial from Ytsara and top it all off with the Swiss Bliss Treatment from La Prairie, a super-luxe top-to-toe pampering treatment. There are 163 rooms and suites to stay in, four restaurants, a poolside café, two all-weather tennis courts and a gym that holds fitness classes.
