Can’t function until you’ve had your morning coffee? Blame your parents! Experts say that like so many other things in life our coffee-drinking habits boil down to genetics.
Harvard researchers looked at 120,000 coffee drinkers worldwide and found six specific genetic variants responsible for coffee cravings. The good news is that if you have one of these genes you’re more likely to metabolise caffeine quickly. This explains why some people can drink coffee late at night and still sleep well – and it also means that your cravings are nothing to worry about. You really do deserve that extra shot of espresso.
