Exotic destinations beckon for mature travellers
More than 70 per cent of Brits over 50 say seeing more of the world is at the top of their to-do list, according to a recent survey*. While the great British summer is something to be admired, there’s a certain allure about the exotic climates of far away places like the Maldives, Mauritius and Cuba that is really enticing.
For many, travelling a long distance was simply not an option when there were hungry little mouths to feed, with nine out of ten admitting to not going away enough when they were younger because of work or family commitments.
Now though, with children having flown the nest, many over 50s view this as the perfect time to re-visit those grand travelling plans, according to the survey by over-50s insurance specialist Staysure.
And gone are the days of spending year after year holidaying in the Costa del Sol – now it appears there’s no limit to how far we’ll go. Exotic film locations in movies such as The Second Best Marigold Hotel and Mama Mia! have given 71 per cent of over 50s the inspiration to visit countries like Jaipur in India and Skopelos in Greece.
