Virgin London Marathon, 21 April
One of the largest fundraising events on the planet, runners have raised over £500m for good causes since it began in 1981. It’s too late to sign up for this year, but perhaps you could go along and cheer on the runners and plan to take part next year. For details see here.
Race For Life, various dates and locations across the UK
Women-only 5k and 10k events that aim to raise money for Cancer Research UK. You can walk, jog, run or even dance your way around the course! Get a gang together or make friends while you’re there. See here to find a race near you.
Bupa Great Manchester Run, 26 May
The Bupa Great Manchester 10k Run is part of a Bank Holiday weekend of events that include a 1.5km Mini event for children aged 3-8 and a 2.3km Junior event for 9-15 year olds. Check here for further details.
Edinburgh Marathon, 26 May
Entries for the full marathon are now closed but there are still charity places available for this run, which has been voted the UK’s fastest marathon, or you could try for the Edinburgh Half Marathon the day before (25 May). Look here for details.
Big Fun Run, various dates and locations across the UK
These 5k runs are staged in scenic parks across the UK from June to October. They have a relaxed atmosphere suitable for families and are an ideal event for beginners and experienced runners alike. Sign up here and have fun!
British 10k London Run, 14 July
You can choose to run for yourself, your chosen charity or the run’s official charity, which this year is Tommy’s. You’ll get a medal and certificate plus discount to many of the city’s attractions and eateries. Visit here for more information.
Bupa Great North Run, Newcastle, 15 September
Part of a great weekend of sport including the Bupa Junior and Mini Great North Run and Bupa Great North 5k, both on 14 September. See here for more details of these events.
Bupa Great Birmingham Run, 20 October
Half marathon through the city centre for runners of all abilities aged 17 and over with live music from ‘bands on the run’ to keep you motivated. Sign up here and get moving!
Bupa Great South Run, 26-27 October
Ten-mile event taking in Portsmouth’s historic dockyard and with beautiful views of the Isle of Wight. Weekend includes Junior and Mini runs. Check it out here.
