Tried and tested – Water bottles

With the drive to cut back on plastic use, reusable water bottles could be one answer. But finding one that doesn’t leak, keeps water cool and doesn’t make the water taste stale isn’t easy. We found the very best on the market.

Best value

Infusion Water Bottle 700ml, £7.49 andrewjamesworldwide.com

We loved the simple screw access infusion filter, which allows you to pop in fruit or fruit/herbal teabags of your choice, and enjoy lightly flavoured water. It also comes with its own cleaning brush and a clip to attach to your bag. The clear plastic bottle has a simple pop-up spout and a handy silicone ring around the top, which stopped any leakages.

Best hot and cold

SIGG Hot & Cold Glass Water Bottle 400ml, £25.99 uk.sigg.com, Amazon

The double-walled bottle made from heat-resistant glass ensures optimal insulation whether you want hot or cold liquids. The two built-in filters enable great creations – the long filter is particularly suitable for loose tea; the short filter is ideal for whole tea leaves, fruit and vegetable slices as well as whole spices. The insulation construction does mean capacity is reduced but and the bottle really is taste and odour-neutral so suits fussy drinkers!

Best glass

Air Kiss BKR, 500ml, £28.00 available from mybkr.co.uk

Being glass, this bottle is weightier than its plastic counterparts, but it’s worth it because it’s such a pleasure to drink from. Water tastes purer and colder. The nonslip silicone wrap protected the bottle when dropped from a height; it also reduces the chance of slipping off surfaces or out of hands while the twist on plastic cap has a convenient carry handle. It’s not the easiest to wash as the mouthpiece is quite small, but the bottle is dishwasher safe and the sleeve removable.

Best filter bottle

Brita Fill & Go Active, 600ml, £8.80, Amazon.co.uk, BRITA, Ocado and Argos

Save money and the environment with this excellent filter bottle that removes chlorine and other taste altering chemicals from good old tap water.
