Tried and Tested: Plus size jeans

If shopping for jeans that actually fit, look fashionable and still manage to flatter your feminine curves often leaves you in despair, we have the answer. We set our plus-size panel the challenge of finding their dream denims, here’s how they got on…

BEST SIZE 16

Our tester tried on 13 pairs in her quest to find jeans that flattered her broad hips and 31in leg. The most common issue is jeans that fit hips and thighs are usually too big at the waist, so these were her top three finds…

1. Dream jeans…

Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Supersoft Straight Leg, 6-20 (£150, isme.com)

The fit is exceptional with this pair sitting comfortably at the waist, eliminating muffin tops and creating a neat silhouette instead. The supersoft denim felt thinner and yet superior to other jeans tested. While pricier than high street stores, their unrivalled flattering fit – that’s also easy to get on – ensures you get plenty of wear from them.

2. Everyday favourites…

Per Una Roma Bootcut, 8-18 (£29.50, Marks and Spencer)

These smart-looking, dark blue jeans fitted perfectly around the waist, bum and thighs, while the standard length was long enough to wear with heels, making them great for day and evening wear.

3. Fabulous budget buy…

Wow Bootcut Jeans, 14-32 (£20, simplybe.co.uk)

Soft to touch, the denim has lots of give so they’re really comfy. They also have an adjustable, hidden elastic waistband that eliminates gaps at the back, while the shaped high pockets give the illusion of a perkier rear.

We also tested sizes 18, 20 and 22. To find out what was voted the best in these sizes, turn to page 34 of your June 2012 issue.
