Makeover special

The lucky winner of our great on-line makeover competition was Lynn Machray from Wirral.  To start her 5 star day Lynn was whisked away to Andrew Collinge’s flagship salon in Liverpool’s Castle Street. After a careful consultation, twice British Hairdresser of the Year Andrew, together with wife Liz, a top make-up artist, weaved some makeover magic. When Lynn’s day of pampering was over, we asked her if she was pleased with the results…

Oh I’m delighted, it was a fantastic day. Andrew and Liz treated me like a princess!

We noticed that you had a slight fringe cut in which we think looks gorgeous!

Yes I did. I tend to pull my hair back off my face, but to make my look a bit softer Andrew chopped about 2 inches off, created some light feathering around the face and applied some highlights to boost my colour and create an overall fresher look!

What was your favourite part of the day?

I think it was really the information that both Andrew and Liz gave me about what I could do with my hair and makeup.

Well that brings me on to my next question… Have you used any of the tips that you learnt on the day?

Well as I was lucky enough to be given a lot of the products that were used, I have been able to put some of their tips to the test! Andrew said that it is always important to remember to boost the height of the hair – what goes up must come down! Liz told me that less is more when it comes to make-up so she used a light foundation that allowed my freckles to show through! She also mentioned how important moisturising is.

What did your family and friends think of your new look?

Oh they thought I looked stunning! Also, I must mention that the photographer was fantastic – he snapped away in the background – I hardly noticed him!

Hair SOS!

We asked hair expert Andrew Collinge a couple of questions we thought you might want answered!

How do I achieve more volume?
Use a blow dry lotion, dry the roots with the head tipped forward, take a round brush and dry the ends in sections. Put Velcro rollers around the crown and apply a little low heat. Cool, remove and rake with your fingers.

Can you carry a longer hairstyle as you age?
Hair can be too long – it shouldn’t overtake you.

What’s the best anti-aging up-do?
For an elegant look, try a pleat. Set the hair on heated rollers, backcomb the crown, take the hair to the nape of the neck, then twist and clip in to place.
