3 ways to look after your heart
Health editor Karen Evennett offers easy ways to feel better…
- Get physical! Being active is proven to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, control weight, and keep stress in check.
- Quit smoking – it’s the single best thing you can do for your heart. Smokers are twice as likely to have a heart attack as non-smokers.
- Chill out. Meditation is now recommended by the American Heart Association for the treatment of high blood pressure. A 2012 study found that people who regularly practised meditation were 48% less likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke, compared to people who attended health education classes for five years.
