3 ways to look after your heart

Health editor Karen Evennett offers easy ways to feel better…

  1. Get physical! Being active is proven to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, control weight, and keep stress in check.
  2. Quit smoking – it’s the single best thing you can do for your heart. Smokers are twice as likely to have a heart attack as non-smokers.
  3. Chill out. Meditation is now recommended by the American Heart Association for the treatment of high blood pressure. A 2012 study found that people who regularly practised meditation were 48% less likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke, compared to people who attended health education classes for five years.
