180218954Alzheimer’s researchers looking for markers they can use to diagnose the disease before the onset of dementia say that depression and irritability could be a feature three years ahead of obvious memory problems. A study in the Journal Neurology found that 30 per cent of people who later developed dementia had a problem with depression first. But the researchers say they still don’t know whether this is due to people realising on some level that they are having problems with memory and thinking, or whether the depression is caused directly by Alzheimer’s effects on the brain.
