Don’t underestimate the impact of eczema on sufferers’ lives – newest research shows that those with the condition are more likely to make poor lifestyle choices that lead to far more complex health problems.
Because of the physical pain and low self esteem that accompany most cases of eczema, people are more likely to smoke and drink – and they’re also more likely to be obese and to take too little exercise, because sweating aggravates the condition. As a result, patients with eczema are found to have higher rates of heart disease, hypertension and diabetes say US researchers. The study points to the need to take eczema seriously, as its repercussions can be fatal.
