Goan sea bream curry

This delicious fish curry is low in fat but big on taste

Serves: 2

Cooking time: 15 minutes


2 tbsp coconut oil

¼ tsp mustard seeds

2 curry leaves

2 red onions, chopped

1 tbsp ginger, chopped

1 tbsp garlic, chopped

1 green chilli, chopped

2 tomatoes, chopped

¼ tsp turmeric

1 tbsp ground coriander

¼ tsp red chilli powder

¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper

2 tbsp tamarind juice

100ml coconut milk

2 fillets of sea bream

salt to taste


     Heat the coconut oil and add the mustard seeds. When they start to crackle, add the curry leaves, onion, ginger, garlic and green chilli and sauté well.

2      When the onion mixture is soft, add the tomatoes, turmeric, coriander, red chilli powder and black pepper. Mix for a further 2 minutes.

3      Add the tamarind juice, coconut milk, a splash of water and season to taste.

4      Bring to the boil then add the fish pieces and cook on a low heat with the lid on for about five minutes until the fish is cooked through.

5      Add seasoning if deemed necessary, then garnish with fried curry leaves.
