Red wine, apple and cranberry braised cabbage

Ready in 1 hour 10 minutes
25g (1oz) butter
1kg (2¼lb) medium red cabbage, trimmed and finely shredded
1 red onion, chopped
3 tbsp soft dark brown sugar
150ml (5fl oz) red wine
3 apples, peeled, cored and roughly chopped
a good pinch ground cinnamon and ground cloves
2 tbsp cranberry sauce
1. Melt the butter in a large, heavy based saucepan, add the remaining ingredients and combine well.
2. Simmer for 1 hour until tender and most of the liquid has evaporated. Season well and serve.
