Wet Weather Set to Bite Back This Summer
Areas such as puddles and other natural reservoirs of water, which are shielded off from sunlight, provide the perfect breeding ground for the flying bloodsuckers and nibbling nuisances.
While mosquitoes and midges are more of an irritation than a serious danger in the UK, Lyme disease, contracted from ticks, is a serious problem that the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health warns is growing.
Outdoor survival expert, Ray Mears, fell prey to the disease some years ago.
“Lyme disease can be a truly debilitating illness. I suffered for 16 years before it was diagnosed and treated. For me it caused severe back pain, but the symptoms can vary from person to person.
“At the least biting insects can spoil our time outdoors, at worst they can transmit life threatening illnesses. Whatever the threat, insect repellent is a vital tool for minimising the risk and discomfort caused by insect bites.”
Ray explains why Ultrathon Insect Repellent from 3M is his insect repellent of choice: “People often look for a high level of DEET in the insect repellent they choose, but having too much DEET means the insect repellent will just evaporate off the skin. It is the technology in the product that is imperative for effective protection.
“Ultrathon uses unique Time Release Technology which holds the DEET over an extended period of time, rather than letting it evaporate.”
To keep you protected for up to 12 hours from mosquitos and more this summer, Ultrathon Insect Repellant is available as a spray, pump spray and a lotion.
The Ultrathon Insect Repellent Range is available as a 60ml lotion offering extended protection of up to 12 hours, a convenient 125ml spray offering 8 hours’ protection and a 100ml pump spray providing up to 12 hours’ protection. The lotion and aerosol spray have an RSP of £8.29 and the pump spray has an RSP of £8.49.
