Top tips for healthy summer skin

Summer can be a testing time for skin. On the one hand we’ve got all that lovely vitamin D from the sunshine, yet on the other there are things like UV damage, dehydration and chlorine to contest with.

I love spending time outdoors in the sunshine, weather permitting, so summer is an important time for me to reconnect with nature and spend time with friends and family.

But how can I make sure my skin looks picture perfect in the photo albums?

In order to get skin looking and feeling lovely, Amanda McGillivray, founder of The Natural Skincare Comedy, has a few recommendations I’m really going to take on board.

Firstly, she says that it’s essential that you let yourself get eight hours sleep a night, as “this is the time when your body carries out the majority of its skin repair”.

But before bed and on waking up she suggests you need to cleanse, tone and moisturise to keep skin in top condition.

As well as this, dry body brushing every morning for five minutes will “help remove toxins excreted by your body over night”, Ms McGillivray suggested.

Body brushing should be done in a circular motion in the direction of the heart, starting at the feet and working upwards.

By doing this at least a couple of times a week you can remove dry skin and “condition your body for the summer holiday, helping your tan to last longer”.

This sounds right up my street! I can’t get over how quickly my tan starts to fade. A healthy sun-kissed glow on a Saturday rarely lasts until Monday morning unfortunately.

Drinking lots more water is something I always do during the summer, so I recommend always keeping a bottle on you.

How do you keep your skin looking healthy at this time of year?
