Knitting patterns used to raise cash in Lancashire

Fundraisers on the Fylde Coast have been busy putting their knitting patterns to good use, contributing more than 6,000 tiny hats as part of the Big Knit project.

The hats, which will be used to decorate Innocent Smoothie drinks bottles, will help to raise money for Age Concern UK, which receives 25p from the drinks company for every be-hatted bottle sold, the Blackpool Gazette reports.

The money will help to provide older people with fuel to keep them warm throughout winter.

Sue Panther of the Blackpool branch of Age Concern said the number of hand-crafted donations was astounding, with one volunteer getting busy with no less than 700 hats.

“We are so grateful to all the people who took time to produce some wonderful variations of these bobble hats,” she told the newspaper.

Anybody who still wishes to knit a hat for the cause can get hold of the knitting patterns online and send their creation to Innocent.
