Alcohol needs to be consumed responsibly

Exercising and consuming alcohol responsibly are important over the Christmas period if people want to stay healthy, according to one expert.

Andrew McNeill, from the Institute of Alcohol Studies, said that liver damage is becoming more prevalent in women as well as men and advised people to be careful when drinking this yuletide.

“Obviously because people consume more than usual at Christmas, it is particularly important [that people know how much they are drinking], not just for long-term health problems but in relation to things like drink driving,” he said.

The expert also advised that exercising is a good way to improve family life and said people may want to consider doing it instead of going to the pub.

In other news, the NHS Information Centre recently stated that 73 per cent of men and 57 per cent of women reported drinking an alcoholic drink on at least one day every week.
