How can you flatter your figure on the beach?

How can you flatter your figure on the beach?

Summer holidays are here and even if you’re just hoping to sunbathe on the sands of Scarborough chances are you’re already planning your look.

The idea of getting my lumps and bumps out on the beach usually puts me off embracing the sun, but this year I really can’t be bothered to worry.

Especially as a new study shows that curvaceous beach bodies are actually the most desirable.

A survey of Bond girls by Debenhams has shown that Ursula Andress (the lady who emerges from the sea in beige bikini) has the number one beach figure – hurray for the curvy ladies!

Following on from this Halle Berry came next and while she has curves she’s also brilliantly toned – definitely inspiring me to try a few more sit ups.

“The voluptuous look is still coveted by women and men all over the country… no one should be worried about showing it off to good effect on the beach this summer,” claims Debenhams swimwear buyer Sasha Nagalingham.

I think the trick is to know how to dress for the beach, there’s nothing a good fitting cossie can’t cover!

If you want to wear a bikini but aren’t too keen to show off your tummy then why not tie a sheer sarong around your middle for a flattering cover up?

I’m quite partial to these 50s-style swimming costumes available in the shops. These usually contain a halterneck style top, which is great for accentuating chests and flattering a pear-shaped figure.

Then they cinch in at the waist and tend to flare out a little over the hips, perhaps with a tiny skirt.

For 50s chic you’ll want to try out a kitsch print with polka dots or bows, or perhaps a funky striped option if you want to try something a little more nautical.
