Should we still celebrate Valentine’s Day?

holiday - merry18Is Valentine’s Day just a marketing ploy or a good reminder to show our appreciation of those we love? Does it start too early, with cards appearing shortly after New Year? It’s nice to show our loved ones we care, but do we need an official day to do it on, especially as the price of flowers and restaurant meals rockets? Or is it a handy way of reminding our other half to show their appreciation? Readers share their views on whether it’s a sweet gesture or a money-making exercise…

Valentine Day was supposed to be the day you could let the person you “fancied/secretly admired” know by sending an anonymous (to you from me guess who) card/love letter. Now you have cards for Husband Wife Girlfriend etc: so now it’s all about money and profit.
