As we demand more from our lippy this month, we find the best products for your pout…
Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain and Balm, £7.99 – BEST LIPSTAIN
The promise: A beautiful wash of kiss-proof colour with a soft shine.
In practice: A two-step lipstain – you apply the stain from one end of the stick and once that’s dry you apply the lip balm from the other end. The felt-tip pen-like applicator was easy to use, but precision is the key as there is no hiding mistakes – there’s no shifting this lipstain’s highly pigmented colour once it’s on! Some testers found the stain stung a little when applied but relief came in applying the balm, which soothed and added shine.
The result: A vivid, long-lasting colour with no bleed at the edges and which stayed put all day.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick, £4.99 – BEST BUDGET
The promise: Locks colour to lips for up to eight hours with a soft, smooth, comfortable formula.
In practice: This traditional lipstick glides on evenly and gives excellent coverage from the off. Testers were impressed that it resisted fading and smudging, even after blowing up balloons. They loved the moisturising feeling it gave and the smooth, intense, even colour that won’t need to be reapplied after every drink.
The result: Fabulous lipstick with the staying power to rival some of the more expensive brands.
Estée Lauder Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick, £18.50 – BEST LUXURY
The promise: Lasting fade-resistant wear.
In practice: Slicked on lips, this does need some blotting to ensure an even coverage. Testers also noticed that while the dewy glossiness of the initial application sadly disappears after just one drink, the rich colour underneath remains for hours. In addition, testers found that even after removal, their lips remained smooth without any hint of dryness or patchiness.
The result: Flawless, hydrating and intense colour coverage that really stayed the distance.
