Simple low-calorie cocktail swaps
You fancy indulging in your favourite cocktails in the sunshine, but vowed to stick to your low sugar resolutions – the struggle is real.
But with a little know-how you can still enjoy your favourite fruity drinks while watching the calories.
So it’s out with the margarita and in with the Mexican daisy… below are recipes for four cocktail swaps that are still bursting with flavor and ideal for summer BBQs, courtesy of The Cracker Drinks Co and Myles Myles Cunliffe from The Mixology Group.
Here’s the skinny on how you can cut back on your cocktail calories. Swap:
A mai tai (305 cals) for a sloeso (162 cals)
A Moscow mule (320 cals) for a light and spicy (121 cals)
A merry mojito (353 cals) for a flower n spice (153 cals)
A margarita (375 cals) opt for a Mexican daisy (123 cals)

Sloeco
Ingredients
25ml sloe gin liqueur
25ml bison vodka
75ml apple, raspberry and sloe
5ml fresh lime juice
Champagne saucer or Martini glass
Raspberry and mint spring, for the garnish
Method
Add all ingredients to ice filled cocktail shaker and shake hard for ten seconds. Double strain into chilled glass and top with the garnish.
Light and spicy
Ingredients
35ml vanilla vodka
100ml mango and passion Fruit
25ml Fever Tree naturally light ginger beer
Highball or Collins glass
Lime wedge, for garnish.
Method
Fill a glass with cubed ice then add all the ingredients, stir briefly then cap with crushed ice. Top with the garnish.
Mexican daisy
Ingredients
40ml blanco or white 100 per cent agave tequila
100ml pineapple, coconut and ime
4-8 basil leaves
4-5 coriander stalks
Small piece of chilli
Champagne saucer or Martini glass
Basil spring, for garnish.
Method
Muddle the herbs in a cocktail shaker then add all other ingredients. Shake hard over ice and strain into the chilled glass or Champagne saucer and top with the basil.
Flowers n spice
Ingredients
35ml St Germain liqueur
15ml vanilla vodka
100ml still and cloudy Lemonade
25ml soda water
Lemon wedge, for garnish
Method
Add all ingredients to an ice filled highball or Collins glass and briefly stir, then garnish with a lemon wedge and twist
